What strategies do you use to cope with negative feelings? What are some practical strategies for managing negative emotions? Emotions are messages. Intense as they are but still messages, you have to listen to them, experience them, and let them pass, as you receive the message. Funny as it is you don’t have to actually do something, quite the opposite the point is to be as still as possible when you feel the emotions. Imagine yourself in the cockpit of an airplane suddenly an alarm starts ringing. Do you start to try to shut the alarm off or do you act in accordance with the message that you receive? Maybe you are losing altitude, maybe there is something wrong with the engines, maybe a small minor issue who knows?
