Why do people want to live a very long life?
Oh wow, I say and think this all the time. I would never want to live a life where I see all my friends die and the younger generation wants nothing to do with me.
And I'm going to quote a gentleman who answered you as well - " you truly underestimate how shallow some of us are ". It's nuts, so nuts it's bananas. The same folks who want to live that long forget that they will most likely become extremely dependent on others and will probably be living in a nursing home with crappy food; let's not forget wearing diapers which you'll need help putting on and taking off. ( oh that's not even the tip of the iceberg )
If you ask me that's no way to live.
I think most people want to live a long time because they are afraid of death. I have this conclusion because even people who are not enjoying their life particularly, still want don’t want to die. People will always say “There’s so much I want to do..” but in reality, while they’re alive they mostly work and watch TV. If it were about being able to do things, I think there is plenty of time in one lifetime. Even one year is a very long time.
People don’t want to have to let go and when you die, you have to let go of everything. People spend a lifetime trying to guard against death. Accumulating money so they don’t have to feel afraid, power so they can control their lives and position so they don’t have to feel insignificant. Death makes you confront everything you don’t want to feel.
