What do you find boring?
The ceaseless inane questions about atheism/theism.
Ahhh!!!
As the decades go by, I find myself more and more interested in things, rather than bored of things. I seem to have the capacity to take them all in now, and the stability in life to be able to look at things without fear they might derail me.
But there are things I no longer do, and it’s probably fair to comment that I am bored of them, too:
getting overly enthusiastic about certain car models, wanting to own them, and going out on a limb financially to make it happen. These days, I am happy to enjoy my two old American cars, and I use recent model Toyotas for no-headaches daily transport. I still enjoy looking at cars, but I don’t have to own every single one I like.
looking for the right place to live in the world. I’ve lived in ten countries, and believe I’ve now arrived where I want to be. I can imagine spending more time in France or Spain, but my home is here now.
pseudo-scientific revelations. As exciting as all these things are, they no longer have me on edge. UFOs, Sasquatch, Nessie, ghosts, demons, Yeti… all very nice campfire stories, but nothing that would make me buy a rifle, or build a tin foil hat.
getting distraught over stuff in the media. Once you’ve been reading the news for a few decades, you get a feel for the cycles everything comes in, and you also get a better understanding of the level of overexcitement many news outlets tend to express themselves. Most of what’s presented is neither worth reading, reacting to, or even thinking about. It’s just the normal noise of human existence. Might as well be writing about waves in the surf, or clouds in the sky.
religion. I’m so far gone from that world, that it’s not even funny. None of it even registers with me anymore. I’d forget Christmas if people didn’t remind me. Quite a turn for someone who used to be as religious as I once was.
fitness and weight loss. I know more about it than most people and have decided that I am happy with my current level of slightly overweight and non-fitness. We look the way we live, and I believe I live well enough to not be in any danger. Six-packs will be found only in my fridge. I can run up and down the stairs to retrieve a cooking ingredient from the basement without raising my pulse, so I am probably fit enough for the life I am living.
politics. Once you’ve been around for a while, you realize they aren’t worth the time, unless you are a politician. I look forward to a world where optimized processes and a generally adopted credo of ethics and logic will make politics unnecessary.
