Have you ever been camping?
Yes and, in the right conditions, is a great experience. You need to have all the right equipment in the first place and you need to be able to place it all correctly. You also need to do it with like-minded people who won’t just be complaining the whole time, that’s of great importance. Then you need the proper location and the proper season to do it. My worst camping experience was on the French Alps in spring, during a rainy night. I’ve never experienced such a freezing feeling in my entire life! My best camping experience, on the other hand, was on a beach in Cambodia. The beach was on a tiny little island with close to no modern facilities, so camping was pretty much the only option. The great thing was that there was this sort of hostel that was providing tends for you, already set and ready to be used, right by the sea. It was amazing, the only problem was the sound of the waves being too loud to sleep at times, because I wasn’t used to sleep right on a beach. The other great perk was that, all wrapped up in that tiny tend I was totally protected against mosquitos and other annoying bugs (which are rather numerous and not so innocuous in Cambodian islands!). So, my advice is, pick a warm location, the right time of the year, the right companionship and good camping tools. You’ll have a blast.
