What's your favorite candy? What was your favorite candy when you were a kid, and what is your favorite candy now? Peppermints…preferably strong English ones, though I’ll settle in a pinch. I also like dark chocolate in very small doses, properly made caramel, and the Ghirardelli peppermint bark based on dark chocolate, which thankfully only comes out around Christmas time, and is available in individually wrapped servings so I can control my intake of the stuff. As a child, I liked starlight mints and candy canes, dinner mints, and a soft red and white sort of puffed peppermint that you can still get occasionally. I have had a tub sitting on top of my fridge for a few years now, and I eat a couple here and there. They are good, but overpoweringly sweet.

At that time not everyone went to high school, at least not every farm boy in South Dakota. At that time also, four years was roughly one-third of my lifetime to that point. So, after having spent almost two-thirds of my lifetime in school, the thought of almost another third of a lifetime doing something I pretty much hated was overwhelming. My ‘recipe’ for soup, has never been written down, because it’s different every time dependent on what I have in the fridge/freezer. Start with a hot pot, add butter, and whatever meat you’re using.
